Three ways to visualise the same data

Three ways to visualise the same chart
As an information designer, one of the most important tasks is to create visuals that effectively convey complex data in a way that is easy to understand. However, there are often multiple ways to visualise the same data, and choosing the right one can make all the difference in how well the information is communicated.

The brief:
Humanise the story behind the following data. Remittance transactions are becoming more frequent. 80% in the Philippines have received remittance within the last six months. 77% of Singapore surveyed users have sent money in the last six months.

Step 1. Storyboard
To start, I began by creating a storyboard with rough sketches on my iPad to explore different ways to visualise the data. I tested out various layouts and styles to see which ones worked best. This helped me to identify which data visualisation techniques would be most effective in communicating the key messages of the data.
Step 2. Render
Next, I narrowed down to three options that were the most impactful and clearest. I made sure to consider factors such as ease of understanding, clarity of message, and overall aesthetic appeal. This process helped me to create three different options that were all effective in communicating the key data points.
Step 3. Align
I consulted with the client with my recommendations but also checked which ones they preferred. I presented the three options and discussed their strengths and weaknesses, and together, we made a final decision on which option to move forward with.

The client did not like the sankey chart and preferred the one with the images as it helps "humanise" the data. That led to the final version below.
Hope this post was helpful! Choosing the right visualisation method depends on the data and the message you want to convey. By experimenting with different types of charts and graphs, and consulting with clients to identify their preferences, you can find the best way to communicate your data effectively.
